Pag is one of the most interesting islands in Croatia, so after a nice swim in its turquoise waters you should start exploring what this island has to offer. In this article, we will recommend 8 tips what to see and visit on this Croatian island. When most people think of Pag, they think of beach clubs and endless parties. The famous Zrce beach can be found here, but the island offers much more. You can look forward to nice beaches, remarkable landscapes, interesting trails and great gastronomy!

8 Things to do on Pag island
Life on Mars trail
On our very first day on the island, we went on a wonderful trail called “Life on Mars”. We can confirm that we really felt like we were on Mars. The trail was officially opened in 2019 and you can find its beginning near the town of Metajna. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water (there’s almost no shade along the way) and definitely proper shoes.
The entire circuit is about 12 kilometers, but it is also possible to walk only part of it. You will see several beautiful and deserted beaches where you can swim. At one of the beaches, you will also find a short via ferrata that leads about 1-2 meters above the water
Highest point of Pag – Sveti Vid
Hiking lovers should definitely not miss a hike to the highest peak (…hill) of the island, which is Sveti Vid with a height of 348 meters. Don’t be fooled by the low altitude, you will be facing quite challenging rocky terrain and probably very hot weather. The trip there and back took us about 2 hours. It could be done in less time, but we were taking a lot of pictures and enjoying the walk. At the top you will find the ruins of the fortress and the Croatian flag. The views from the top are soo beautiful and you can spot the Life on Mars trail.
Olive Gardens of Lun
On the northernmost tip of the island, you can find Olive Gardens of Lun, which has been registered on the UNESCO world heritage list. On an area of approximately 24 hectares, you will find 80,000 olive trees. Some of them are up to 2,000 years old. The entry fee is about 4 Euros.

Antique Aqueduct in Novalja
If you are looking for a tip for an unconventional trip, you can visit a little museum in the port town of Novalja. Here you will find and underground antique aqueduct, which was built in the 1st century AD and si often nicknamed “Italian’s hole”. The underground passage is about 1 kilometer long, but accessible are only about 70 metres.
Novalja is a classic port town where you can find a lot of stalls with snacks, ice cream and souvenirs. You can also see the nice church and harbor.

Zrce clubs
If you are up for some evening entertainment, you can go to the famous Zrce beach, which is packed with party clubs. Here you will find some of the best dance clubs in the world and this place is often nicknamed “Croatian Ibiza”. We recommend coming here by bus, because parking in the evening cost us about 9 EUR (it was a bit more than one hour). You will find countless clubs, some of which offer free entry only until midnight. Prices of drinks are around 6-12 EUR.

Pag viewpoint and the town of Pag
One of the most beautiful viewpoints can be found directly above the city of Pag. It is right next to the main road, basically in the middle of nowhere.. so I guess it is accessible by car only. There is also a photogenic PAG sign at the viewpoint. We recommend going there during the golden hour.
We really liked the town of Pag itself, which we would crown as the prettiest town on the island. Here you will find a romantic harbor, a bridge illuminated in the evening, an amusement park and a small museum of salt.
Cheese factory tour and tasting
During your visit you definitely should not miss a visit to the local cheese factory, where the famous Paški sir is produced. It is produced using a traditional method and its annual production does not exceed 200 tons. We went to a small village of Kolan, where you can find the cheese factory of Gligora. The tour costs €10 per person. It is interesting but quite short and does not include a tasting. If you want to taste this traditional cheese, you can buy a cheese plate in Gligora restaurant.

Day trip to Zadar
About an hour long drive from the island of Pag is the city of Zadar, which is the capital of North Dalmatia. There are several beaches, but we preferred the beaches on Pag Island. However, Zadar has a nice historic center, which is located on a small peninsula. You will find there several small churches, a cathedral and souvenir shops. Don’t forget to visit Zadar’s famous attraction sea organ.
